I get an email yesterday that made me… …hmmm, well… …I had to check it out for myself. So I told her to call me the next morning to validate the claim of the email. I told her to call me at 11:00am so that I would be prepared. She didn’t call at 11:00 so I borrowed the roommate’s cell phone and called her mom. I was all like, “What is going on up there?” “Nothing much, isn’t this good news?” “Yeah, she was supposed to call me at 11:00, but she hasn’t yet. So, I need...

So, I’m here on campus during an extended weekend break-thing and at the last minute I found out that they wouldn’t be serving ANY food during the FIVE day break. Normally, when faced with this type of opposition, I would take home extra food from the cafeteria - the cooks actually encourage this! You could take some cold sandwiches, or a bunch of granola bars, or some fruit. They even have a bunch of “single-serving” bags of chips they want you to take to your dorm. But for some rea...

Sarah wrote to me today: “I've been reading your blogs and I want to know the rest of the girl story. You left out important details. I was left hanging. What happened? Did you end up mutually annoying each other or what?” Well, Sarah, All I keep telling people is that "it got weird" (and I say it like Dr. Evil does in Austin Powers 2). We're friends right now, but it is a little awkward. It got weirder: When I was in high school there was this red-haired guy named Aaron Rockford. It see...

My brother was baptized this weekend for the remission of sins, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Praise God! I will have many conversations with him in the afterlife. He and I will sit together around the table. I will pass him the drink, and he will pass to me the food. And we will worship God together there at the table.

I might have patched things up with the girl from Denver. I went over to her Dorm tonight and told her that I was really sorry about what was going on, and that I would really like to still be friends with her. It seemed to work out pretty well. I was getting a lot of crap for not patching that thing up with her from her friends-which seem to be growing in number as the days pass. I would say hi to one of them in the hall, and all I would get was this look, “how can you be such a jerk?” ...

Two years ago today I held my first annual Ground Hog’s Day party. It consisted of a few major themes: 1. The movie “Ground Hog Day” would be watched, and enjoyed by a group of friends. 2. Since Bill Muray is in the movie, I thought it would be neat if I were to showcase other movies that Bill Muray stars in. 3. Since one of the girls on the invite list was really (no I mean it: REALLY) picky about the food she could eat we were going to have a baked potato bar! (she could eat potatoe...

There was this girl from Denver that I really got to know lately. She’s really nice, and funny… one of those girls who makes you feel good to know. Two weeks ago we went for a walk together in the rain. We walked for about an hour and a half, and had a great time. She told me all about her past, and where she’s from. The coolest thing about it was that we just walked together because there was nothing better to do at the time, not because we wanted to… (what’s the word I’m looking for?)...

I got a 94% on my first test this week! It was in New Testament Survey. This is good for three reasons: 1. It is in keeping with my 3.5 GPA goal for the semester 2. You either Aced this test, or you failed this test. 3. This is supposed to be the hardest test for this class all semester, so all subsequent tests should be significantly easier to excel at. I also got a 25/25 on my vocabulary quiz for GREEK (which was a lot easier than anticipated). This greek stuff isn’t as hard as everyb...

As I was saying about the orientation day (see last post “Update from the Frontlines”)… We had this hour where one of the veteran professors gave a brief overview of what to do to get good grades. The profs name is Gareth L. Reese (and he’s very respected around these parts) He went over basic study skills, and simple learning tools that I am already aware of. I learned some new things, but there was something a little more important that he asked of us. He said, “why are you here?” No...

I haven’t had the opportunity to write in a little while because classes have really picked up, and I don’t want to fall behind. Our orientation thing was…unique…that’s putting it nicely. We had to take three separate tests, each having more than 130 questions on them. The whole orientation day went from 8:00am – 8:00pm. At the end of the day, we were pretty tired. Anyway... I’m taking a Restoration history class right now, and it’s my favorite. So far the book we’re reading is REALL...

This kid who has a room across the hall from me is REALLY funny. He comes over and just starts talking about weird stuff. So, just a few minutes ago he came in and was talking about the best nuclear holocaust movie of 1983: “THE DAY AFTER.” Apparently someone gets fed up with Kansas, and decides to nuke it…this kid – the one that lives across the hall – was born in 1983 in Kansas. I said to him, “were they just preparing for the worst, when they knew your Mom was with-child?” He loo...

This whole transition thing is really weird for me. I’ve been looking forward to moving for some time now – and it’s done. It’s very very very very odd. I’ve heard nothing but bad news about one of my roommates. I came into my new room yesterday morning and there was all this crap on the floor. Think of all the gross things you can find on one’s floor and there they were… the only thing that I didn’t see were dirty under-pants. So this guy is supposed to be really nice, but I guess too nice...

I've got a job already! It's cleaning the men's dorm bathrooms. There are three bathrooms that I have to clean in the dorm, each one has two or three urinals, 2 or 3 toilets, and 2 or 3 showers. It's minimum wage, and 15 - 20 hours a week so it shouldn't be too bad. I don't have a phone, and it looks like I'm not going to get one, so email is the best way to communicate with me. I've met a lot of neat people already... the guy that hooked me up for my job is from Brooklyn, NY and he ...
