I just got back from Ashland, Oregon, and boy are my arms tired! Oh that was stinking hilarious.
I am the funniest person alive.
Or not. Whatever. But the drive out there was absolutely beautiful.
Today I went to this seminar on how to Evangelize via multimedia in teaching, or sermons, or anything else.
The main message is that foreign missionaries look for stories that the natives have, and then parallel that to the Gospel. It’s not always a parallel, sometimes it’s an example of what not to do, or sometimes it’s some cultural icon that resembles Christ, and so that is the way they introduce Christ to them.
The way that this guy, David Bruce, described it was that the United States uses movies to tell our stories, and that we should be on the heels of these movies trying to explain the gospel to people through them. Sounds like a stretch, hunh? Nope. There are a lot of basic similarities that ANY movie has with the gospel. Why, on a very basic level you could argue that if you saw someone going to sleep in a movie, and then waking up, you could say that that echoes Christ’s death and resurrection. But still, there is a TON of stuff that is more obvious than my aforementioned example that directly relates to a message that Christ wants us to use.
There was a lot more stuff that he talked about, but you should just go to his website, and check it out yourself:
