I hate the word “Goals” because it sounds so mature
As I was saying about the orientation day (see last post “Update from the Frontlines”)…
We had this hour where one of the veteran professors gave a brief overview of what to do to get good grades. The profs name is Gareth L. Reese (and he’s very respected around these parts) He went over basic study skills, and simple learning tools that I am already aware of. I learned some new things, but there was something a little more important that he asked of us.
He said, “why are you here?” No, he didn’t ask this in the all-universal, “is there a god,” type of way. He asked, what do you want to get out of this? Then he said when you decide this, write it down, and pray about it. Writing it down will help you keep focused, and Praying about it will make it happen!
So… What do I want out of this? Well, ultimately I want a degree. But that’s a little too broad right now. So I decided that I would like a good grade point average. What’s good enough for my standards you might ask? THIS IS KINDA HARD FOR ME TO SAY…
I would like to earn a 3.5 this semester.
There, I said it… now people have to hold me to it. I told Josh this last night, and he thought it was admirable, but it might be a little tough. I agreed, but so far everything that I’ve given to God has worked out, so here goes SOMETHING (rather than nothing).
I’ll write more later.
